Easter in Kraków

Gossip 1470931840_restaurant

This small, charming cafe sneakily stationed next to the Radisson has a local vibe, and serves really good sandwiches and sweet or savoury breakfasts all day from 07:00. Make sure to try it out when in town.

Nad & Greg French Bakery

Created by the titular tag-team of Nad (French) and Greg (Belgian), it starts with their dedication to the craft – meticulously making each pastry, croissant, eclair, cake, macaron (and so much more!) by hand, from fresh seasonal fruits and the finest natural ingredients to result in absolutely delicious artisanal sweets.

Nakielny Cafe

This spacious, modern cafe and bakery has a lot to offer anyone looking for a caffeine fix, sweet tooth satisfier, or pleasant place to pull out the laptop. ‘Monocakes’ – delicious personal-sized desserts, plus sandwiches and savoury phyllo pastries, pralines, macarons, shakes and some of the best ice cream in town.

Burger Station

Burger Station offers 200g beef patties cooked to your specifications with your choice of bun and sauce in classic combos like cheese and bacon and egg and bacon, plus fish and chicken options. For vegetarians there’s a battered mushroom burger, and the killer camembert burger. While the ingredients are fresh and delicious, they also can’t be contained by the crumbling buns of these massive burgers. Expect a tasty mess.

Suto Handroll

All the cool kids are snacking on seaweed burritos filled with grilled shrimp, spicy tuna, chicken teriyaki, caramelised pear, or six other options – each of which comes with the sauce of their choice. We’re as guilty as anyone – fast, fresh and healthy, these sushi rolls have powered us through many a hangover. Also at Plac Nowy 4B/30 and in Tytano at Weźże Krafta.

L’Officina Della Pasta

L’Officina’s concept is quite simple: fresh pasta, bread and focaccia made on-site daily from fresh ingredients, paired with Italian wine, an Illy espresso, or choice Italian IPA. There’s nothing too flashy or ground-breaking here – just hearty comfort food served in a sophisticated, modern interior of exposed brick and dark furnishings that seems to elevate the food to a more elegant station.

Farma

Serving cheap, simple 100% vegan burgers, zapiekanki (basically a baguette pizza with various toppings), soy hot dogs, soups and some desserts to a clientele that looks like they only feed themselves because their bodies demand it, Farma won’t inspire you to go vegan, but it will get you through the day if you’re already a disciple of the Church of Soy.

Sababa

The Kazimierz cousin of (the slightly superior) Mercy Brown, Sababa is a covert cocktail club surprisingly stationed on Szeroka above Hamsa. Despite the 25zł signature drinks served up by sharp-dressed barmen, there’s a certain dive bar appeal to this hidden hangout, whose black walls and moody lighting, accented by elemental metals and geometric emblems, make for a very low-key lounge.

MICET (Interactive Theatre Museum) (Muzeum Interaktywne Centrum Edukacji Teatralnej)

This new name-challenged museum in the basements of the Stary Teatr (Old Theatre) presents the theatre’s achievements through a digital archive, pays homage to theatre as a Polish cultural institution, and allows visitors to experience some of the technical aspects of theatrical production. Certainly the most hi-tech museum in Kraków, the whole experience is conducted through interactive apps, touch-screen displays, tablets and other digital exhibits.

Syncret

This outstanding shop specialises in vintage and modern fine jewellery, made with diamonds and natural stones. The selection is carefully curated to only include truly exceptional diamonds and stones, all of which come with valuation documents, can be made into rings matching the customer’s exact specifications, and even resized for free at a later date.

Kacper Global

One of Poland’s most successful design brands internationally, Kacper has been producing shoes since 1997, building a reputation for comfort, quality and a diversity of design that doesn’t shy away from bold colours (a bit of a rarity in PL). Specialising in natural leather footwear.

Pan Tu Nie Stał

A design firm manufacturing contemporary hipster apparel inspired by PRL graphics and culture. Clever, trendy and tongue-firmly-in-cheek, choose from t-shirts featuring the faces of Stanisław Lem or Pan Kleks, fanny packs that say ‘Cześć’ (Hi), hats that say ‘bajzel’ (shambles), classic Soviet-era handleless mugs, communist nostalgia photo albums, shoulder bags, posters, postcards and more.
