Poznań In Your Pocket no.52 ★20 years in Poland★

Spring is creeping back to Poznań, and we’re kicking off another day-trip season with an outing to Poland’s first capital, Gniezno, a mere 50km away – turn to p.6 to join us. Back in good old Poz, all our walking tours are back in vogue; aside from the obligatory Old Town (p.28) and Ostrów Tumski (p.34) sights, we especially recommend a half-day walking around the mysterious Citadel Park (p.37), which, aside from its leafy flair and historical appeal, is a great place for a springtime picnic.

On a different front, a few annual favourites are coming up on the cultural calendar, from the Night of Museums (p.18) and Easter Fair (p.16) to the fab musical festival quartet of Enter Enea (p.18), Enea Spring Break (p.18), Ethno Port (p.18), and the over-the-top Malta Festival (p.18).

Starting with this issue, we’ve also decided to make a permament place in the guide for a rundown of the most distinctive regional dishes, with a list of restaurants where you can sample them (p.48). We hope that this addition will make it easier for you to get the most out of your Poznań visit. As always, we welcome your questions and comments at poland@inyourpocket.com, and happy exploring!

Cover Story

For this spring – early summer issue, we’ve chosen a photo of Poznań’s 1909 neo-Classicist Great Theatre. In the coming months, theatre and opera enthusiasts can catch stagings of Nabucco (p.14) and Fiddler on the Roof (p.18).

Main Feature. Gniezno: The First Capital of Poland
