Turbine Art Fair 2022
THU JUL 21–SUN JUL 24 The annual Turbine Art Fair (TAF) returns to Joburg for its tenth edition, happening at a new venue in the Oxford Parks precinct in Rosebank. This year’s fair is packed with specially commissioned installations and exhibitions, a great art talks programme, exciting showcases of young and emerging artists, delicious food and drinks, a glittering opening night party and of course the main attraction – an incredible array of artworks on sale. Joburg Heritage Walking Tour – Linksfield Ridge and Harvey Nature Reserve
SAT JUL 23 from 14:00 Join Joburg Heritage for this guided hike along the Linksfield Ridge all the way through to the Harvey Nature Reserve and enjoy spectacular views of Kensington and Orange Grove along the way. The 5km is a relatively strenuous one that is recommended for the fit with some steep inclines and declines. Booking is essential. The tour starts at Fouchee Terrace, Morninghill and lasts approximately 3 hours. Tickets for non-Joburg Heritage members R200. Book online here.
Paint and Sip at The Playground
SAT JUL 23 The fun and creative Paint and Sip session is back at Braamfontein’s The Playground market on Saturday. The experience kicks off with a cocktail to get the creative juices flowing before the sketching and painting gets into swing. Once you’ve completed your masterpiece stay on to enjoy the live music, DJs, delicious food and lively rooftop party vibe. This week’s afternoon DJ line-up includes DJ Sliqe and DJ Shulda. Paint and Sip sessions at 11:00–13:30 and 14:00–16:30, booking is essential. The class costs R200 and can be booked online here.
Encore – Sunday Dance Social at Ethos
SUN JUL 24 from 12:00 Every Sunday in July, come rain or shine, dance fans gather at Ethos restaurant for an informal, fun and friendly kizomba, salsa and tarraxinha dancing party led by dance instructor Paciano. The Dance Social takes place from 12:00 to 21:00 so there’s plenty of time to put on your dancing shoes, drop in for drinks and a late lunch, then grab a partner and dance the night away. Ethos is located at Oxford Parks, Cnr Eastwood and Parks Blvd, Rosebank.
Gilli Apter – Stand-up comedy at The Bioscope
SAT JUL 23 South African comedian and screenwriter Gilli Apter takes to The Bioscope cinema stage at 44 Stanley for two shows on Sat Jul 23 and Sat Jul 30. Gilli lands in Joburg following a busy international tour that has seen her performing in Australia, Canada and London. If you are looking to catch up with some of her stand-up beforehand check out the Netflix stand-up series Only Jokes Allowed. She also featured on Trevor Noah’s Nationwild tour, which is streaming on Showmax. Tickets R180, available online here.
Classic Cars Club drive and brunch at Rand Club
SAT JUL 23 from 08:30 Owners of classic and sports cars have an opportunity to show off their machines with the Classic Cars Club drive this weekend. The drive to town is a convoy that gathers at Olivia’s Coffeebake at the Impala Centre in Northcliff at 08:30 for a 09:00 departure. Stylishly drive your way to town and park up outside the Rand Club where a delicious breakfast and a chance to share all the special features of your car with fellow enthusiasts await. Russell Kaplan Winter Wunderkammer auction

Gallery Fanon Dinner Club at Troyeville House
THU JUL 28 Join Gallery Fanon to celebrate the launch of their new art exhibition space at Troyeville House at this exclusive dinner club preview evening. Award-winning chef Charmaine Lehabe takes guests on a culinary experience in historic surrounds with a three-course meal paired with a curated selection of drinks prepared by the in-house mixologist and a performance by folk songstress Asanda Nectar Delihlazo.
