Highlights from Strauss and Co’s September Online Auction

This September, South Africa’s leading fine art auction house Strauss & Co presents another fantastic opportunity to purchase some of the finest contemporary and historic artworks currently available on the South African market from the comfort of your screen in its latest Online Auction. By registering on the site you get to favourite and compare works and there’s also time to read up on your chosen artists before entering your bid. A fun and affordable way for first-timers to get a taste for buying and collecting art.

There are almost 500 lots to bid for in the auction including paintings, prints, art on paper and decorative items such as antique silverware, glassware and jewellery. The Online Auction is open for bids from 08:00 on Mon Sep 10 until 20:00 on Mon Sep 17.

NATAL SCHOOL SCHOOL ARTWORKS

For this edition of the Online Auction Strauss & Co have put together a special focus on artists from the Natal, both contemporary and historic. These include artworks from the influential Rorke’s Drift Arts and Craft Centre and fine art school, which during the apartheid era was one of the most prominent institutions in the country that helped develop the work of black South African artists.

DECORATIVE ARTS

Among the decorative arts and jewellery up for grabs in the Online Auction are a delightful collection of Scandinavian design classics, including Art Deco jewellery by Georg Jensen and Danish and Swedish modernist furniture.
