Trending: August’s most popular reads

Every month we look back at the most popular reads on our Johannesburg In Your Pocket website and present our biggest new recent stories in case you missed ’em.

TRENDING IN AUGUST: After an infamously awful month of July which included sub-zero temperatures, a Level 4 lockdown, violent unrest and a third wave peak, August gave us all a little space to breathe (albeit with many restrictions still in place). Even better yet vaccinations started rolling out for everyone aged above 18. And so, as we Joburgers began to contemplate the end of lockdown and winter, our readers were ready to get out again. As ever, we were ready with lots of ideas for where to go.

Here’s a look at five of our biggest reads in August.

High Tea in Joburg

The lightest and fluffiest buttery scones with clotted cream and preserves, pretty petit fours and dainty pots of tea served to the sounds of a live pianist… taking time out to enjoy afternoon tea is always a treat. Plan your next Joburg High Tea date here.

Odd Portraits of this Place

Unfolding online throughout August, Odd Portraits Of This Place is the latest short film series from The Centre for the Less Good Idea in Maboneng. Each short film is shot in a different Gauteng location, using film, sound and language to capture the interaction between space, the body and movement. Plan your next getaway in the Cradle of Humankind here.
