Live music at Archer Bar & Eatery

THU OCT 14 & FRI OCT 15 A super chilled way to start your weekend, Archer Bar & Eatery in Melrose Arch hosts the smooth vocals of Will Rays from 18:00 on Thursday and Friday evening. Find yourself a seat on the terrace and settle in for an evening of cocktails and jazzy smooth RnB and soul. Entrance is free.

Blood Knot at Market Theatre

FROM FRI OCT 15 The Market Theatre stages Athol Fugard’s powerful drama Blood Knot. A South African classic about race, love, hope and brotherhood, the play is set in the suburb of Korsten in Port Elizabeth in the 1960s, a broken and impoverished place packed with people desperately trying to find themselves somewhere more hopeful. The Bag Factory Summer Salon and Oxford Parks pop-up exhibition

SAT OCT 16 The Bag Factory Artists’ Studio hosts its annual fundraising summer salon sale at their Fordsburg studios with 30 works on sale ranging in price from R500 to R30,000 (open from 10:00 to 14:00). Also on Saturday, The Bag Factory launches a new pop-up group exhibition with Kalashnikovv Gallery at Oxford Parks in Rosebank. Drop into the exhibition launch from 16:00.

Bike Ride and Backstoep Sundays at Mangrove

SUN OCT 17 Mangrove’s Sunday morning social bike ride is back heading out from Braamfontein at 09:00 for a cycle around the city (choose from a 5–7km route or 10–15km). Bring your own bikes or book one before Saturday lunchtime for R150. Following the ride, brunch is on the menu at Mangrove followed by the Backstoep Sundays party in the rear courtyard.

SUN OCT 17 The Ganico organic farm in Muldersdrift hosts a special Garden Day celebration with fine food and complimentary Pomegranate Gem Champagne. The day includes a guided tour of the farm’s orchards and their new ‘food forest’ to learn about how to use edible weeds and flowers, a flower crown-making workshop and a gourmet lunch made with produce from the farm. Tickets cost R750, kids under 15 R350. Book online here.
