Here’s five fresh events that caught our eye this week

Glenshiel Christmas Fair

UNTIL NOV 7 The grand Westcliff mansion Glenshiel opens its doors for the annual Glenshiel Christmas Fair. The festive market boasts stalls selling artisanal and handmade gifts, from fashion to ceramics, stationery, jewellery, accessories and luxury linens. Boutique wines and tasty food offerings make this a great summer weekend event, especially in jacaranda season. Even better yet, it’s all in aid of charity. General entrance costs R100. Picnic under the stars at Walter Sisulu Gardens

FRI NOV 5 & SAT NOV 6 Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, one of Gauteng’s most beautiful parks, stays open into the evening for this special event which includes a night market and lots of kiddies’ activities including face painting and jumping castles to enjoy on the lawns. Picnic baskets are welcomed (strictly no alcohol) and there’s also food on sale at the market. The park stays open until 21:30 for the event. Tickets cost R60, pensioners R50, students R40, kids under 6 free. Book online here. 

Stand-up comedy at Rand Club

FRI NOV 5 Head to town to the historic Rand Club for Comedy View, a night of live stand-up. Hosted by Richelieu Beaunoir the night’s headline act is South African comedian Ndumiso Lindi. Make sure to arrive promptly at 18:30 for good seats. Food and drinks are available from the Rand Club restaurant. Tickets R150, Rand Club members R120. Charles Leonard DJ set at Breezeblock

SAT NOV 6 Bringing some old-school magic to the historic suburb of Brixton, Breezeblock hosts one of SA’s finest vinyl DJs Charles Leonard playing his enviable selection of records in the spacious courtyard from 15:00-19:00. Corona Sunset Sessions at The Beach in Braamfontein

SAT NOV 6 Braamfontein’s rooftop beach bar at 70 Juta Street reopens this weekend with an all-day beach party from 11:00 to 21:00. There’s food on sale courtesy of The Wing Republic and DJs on the decks include Thembalunacy and Kitchenmess. Tickets cost R150 on the door.
