Concerts on the square at Black Brick

SUN DEC 5 Sandton Central’s Black Brick presents a day of live jazz in their piazza with local jazz stars blessing our ears with good tunes including the award-winning pianist Nduduzo Makhathini and saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane. Gates open at 14:00 and food and drink is on sale throughout the afternoon and evening. Tickets R150 early bird, R200 general entrance, both available online here.

Johannesburg Opera Christmas Concert

SUN DEC 5 The Johannesburg Opera company performs a special Christmas Concert at the Tin Town Theatre in Ferreirasdorp. Showcasing a beautiful ensemble of voices singing favourite Christmas carols, the opera company singers are joined by Paul Ferreira on the piano and Andrew Duncan on the organ. Guests are invited to bring along unwrapped Christmas gifts for children (valued from R150-R250) to be donated to a local children’s home. Takes place at 4 Margaret Mcingana St, Ferreirasdorp. Tickets R200, available online here.

Nelson Mandela Square Antiques Fair

SUN DEC 5 The final monthly antique fair of 2021 takes place at Nelson Mandela Square on Sunday and as always there’s a brilliant array of unusual and unique treasures on sale. Set aside time to do some serious browsing and you could pick up everything from obscure Victorian household items and 19th Century tools to Art Deco tea sets, vintage jewellery, colourful porcelains and quirky glassware. Takes place 10:00–16:00. Entrance is free.

Locrate Market

SUN DEC 5 The Locrate Market is back in Orlando West bringing a fun mix of local food, fashion, and music to please all tastes. This is a firmly #supportlocal environment and you’ll always find an interesting array of black owned businesses here. Tickets are only available at the door and cost R20. Stall are free – so if you have something to sell the cool people who attend this market we suggest you reach out to @locratemarket.

Festive Live on the Square

SAT DEC 4 AND SUN DEC 5 Nelson Mandela Square’s Festive Live Programme brings fresh live music performances to the square every weekend from 18:00-20:00, and on public holidays until December 24. An opportunity to watch the performers and eat a delicious meal after getting your shopping done. No entry charge.
