My French Film Festival 2022

UNTIL FEB 14 Promoting the very best of contemporary French cinema, the annual online My French Film Festival presents 30 short and feature films, which can be streamed online for free at myfrenchfilmfestival.com. Kunye

SAT FEB 12 Joburg’s hottest open-air house music festival Kunye is back this weekend, happening on Sat Feb 12 at Sandton’s Mushroom Farm Park. Led by DJ Shimza, other favourite local DJs on the decks include Zakes Bantwini, Culoe De Song and Desiree. Tickets R550, buy yours online here.

Mulligatawny Farm Gardens Open Day

SAT FEB 12 & SUN FEB 13 The beautifully landscaped 16-hectare gardens at Mulligatawny Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Magaliesberg, are among the most beautiful private gardens in the province with hundreds of varieties of flowers, abundant wetlands and some wonderful sculptures. This weekend the gardens host one of their rare open day weekends, all in aid of charity. There are stalls selling snacks and refreshments throughout the day, including a pop-up gin bar in the exotic ‘peacock pavilion’.
Tickets R250, kids R100. Tickets must be bought in advance online here. The gardens are open 09:00–17:00.

Total Eclipse Valentine’s Dinner and Show

SAT FEB 12 Take your love out for a Valentine’s Day dinner with a difference at Hotel Sky Sandton‘s newly relaunched theatre-dining restaurant Eclipse. The special five-course Valentine’s dinner comes paired with a glittering show that includes poetry, dancing, opera, and a high-flying aerial acrobatic show.

#LiveontheSquare at Nelson Mandela Square

SAT FEB 12–MON FEB 14 Nelson Mandela Square‘s series of free live music events, Live on the Square, is back every Saturday and Sunday. A great way to spend a warm summer afternoon or evening outdoors, especially with so many good restaurant choices to enjoy on the square. Especially for Valentine’s Day there’s also an extra concert on Monday February 14, led by local favourites Mi Casa.
Saturday performances from 18:00–20:00 and Sunday performances from 14:00–16:00. Entrance is free.

Songs and Poems of Love – Valentine’s Concert at Nirox Sculpture Park

SUN FEB 13 Enjoy a day of live music and poetry performances in the tranquil surroundings of the elegant Nirox Sculpture Park in the Cradle of Humankind this Valentine’s Day. Performers include Zolani Mahola, Madala Kunene, Guy Buttery, Shotgun Tori, Timothy Maloi and Tidal Waves. Note no food or drinks may be brought into the venue, lunch and boutique wines are available from one of the high-end food stalls at the park.

Quizzing at Rosebank Sunday Market

SUN FEB 13 The weekly Rosebank Sunday Market hosts a competitive general knowledge pub quiz hosted by top quizmasters Quiznights SA. Happening from 12:00 to 14:00, put your trivia skills to the test with plenty of prizes up for grabs including vouchers to spend at your favourite market stalls. Entrance is free and there is no need to book. 

Sky-high Valentine’s Dinner at Ponte

MON FEB 14 For an only-in-Joburg kind of Valentine’s date, join local tour company Dlala Nje at the iconic 52 storey Ponte tower, for the exclusive Valentine’s Live evening. The evening starts with welcome drinks and live music enjoyed inside the iconic Ponte ‘core’, followed by an African-themed three-course dinner, including dessert served with an incredible view at Dlala Nje’s 51st floor venue.
Tickets R1,500 for two (including all food, drinks and a photo gift). Book tickets online here. The experience runs from 17:30 –22:00.
