On Sat Feb 12, together with one of our favourite Joburg guides MicroAdventure Tours, we hosted our first ticketed Johannesburg In Your Pocket experience of 2022. Sticking it to cupid this Valentine’s we invited Joburgers to join us for a sunset ride on the Joburg Red Bus around some of the best city viewpoints, stopping for drinks, canapes and fantastic urban panoramas along the way.
Starting out from Rosebank on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon we made our way to our first stop, one of the finest ridgetop views in town, Munro Drive in Houghton.
Here we stopped to enjoy bubbly from Franschhoek’s acclaimed Colmant vineyard, while enjoying the view. Made exclusively from the traditional Champagne varietals of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Colmant is South Africa’s first cellar devoted solely to making Methode Cap Classique.
From Munro Drive we hopped back on the bus, travelling through historic Houghton and Parktown to our next stop, the rooftop at the ANEW Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein.
Located on the 24 floor, the Parktonian’s sky-high rooftop bar boasts 360-degree views that are among the best in town, which were admired over drinks and snacks.
With the sun starting to set it was back to the bus for a drive around the city, taking in some of our favourite views of Joburg’s iconic skyline in the golden hour on the way to our final rooftop at Hallmark House.
Up at Hallmark’s trendy 16th-floor rooftop venue 999 we then watched as a mass of thousands of city lights flickered ahead of us, while enjoying a feast of canapes, before hopping back on our bus for a twilight ride back to Rosebank.

In the coming months in collaboration with local guides and creatives we plan to roll out a series of unique city adventures.
