Fourways Farmer’s Easter Market

SAT APR 16–SUN APR 17 A relaxed weekend of Easter fun at this always popular market overlooking the wonderful green expanses of the Modderfontein Reserve. In addition to the usual excellent range of tasty food stalls there’s a kid’s Easter egg hunt happening from 10:00–11:00 and the Easter Bunny will also make an appearance. Entrance R10, kids, pensioners free. Open Sat and Sun 09:00–18:00 at Modderfontein Reserve.

Beats By Her at Untitled Basement

FRI APR 16 One of our favourite Braamfontein party venues Untitled Basement presents a brand new DJ night this weekend, Beats By Her. A celebration of femme Joburg DJs and selectors, on the decks is an all-woman lineup of famous and lesser-known local talent. Takes place at Untitled Basement, 7 Reserve St, Braamfontein. Tickets R100 on the door.

Classic Movie for Kids: The Princess Bride

FRI APR 15 AT 14:00 The Bioscope’s Classic Movie Kids series brings iconic kids’ films from yesteryear back to the big screen. Fun for parents looking for something original to do with younger kids, the latest film to feature is Rob Reiner’s 1980s cult classic The Princess Bride. Tickets R80, available at thebioscope.co.za.

The Tea Room children’s Easter pop-up

FRI APR 15–SUN APR 17 The Tea Room is a luxurious pop-up patisserie in Parkwood specialising in beautiful High Teas. For the Easter weekend The Tea Room presents a special Kids High Tea. The decadent kids High Tea box includes Easter cookies, macarons, cupcakes and cakesicles and costs R250. Fri, Sat and Sun from 11:00–16:00 at 142 Jan Smuts Ave, Parkwood. Tickets R295. Chocolate Cafe at Sandton City

UNTIL SUN APR 17 Sandton City’s Easter chocolate extravaganza Chocolate Cafe features all of the biggest chocolate brands such as Cadbury, Lindt and Ferrero Rocher and local favourites Chocoloza. Stock up on Easter eggs, customised chocolate slabs, and other Easter goodies while the kids enjoy the egg painting station and meet everyone’s favourite Easter Bunny. Open 11:00–19:00, Good Friday to Easter Sunday 11:00–18:00, entrance R30 (with a portion of proceeds donated to charity).

Sognology Music Festival

FRI APR 15–SAT APR 16 Sognage, an underground music venue in the West Rand, presents Sognology a two-day music festival with a lineup of 18 artists from a variety of genres playing over two stages. Acts performing include BLK JKS, December Streets, Shortstraw, and Tidal Waves. Happening at Sognage, 304 Tungsten Rd, Strydompark. Tickets R200 per day (R250 on the door), available online here.

The Nightmares Live at The Bioscope

FRI APR 15 AT 19:30 After a hugely successful debut show at The Bioscope, this glittering male burlesque show returns to the independent cinema in 44 Stanley. Audiences can look forward to a musical evening revisiting iconic 20th-century numbers with lots of cabaret, burlesque, drag, disco, and vogueing. The show starts at 19:30. Tickets R150, available online here.

Easter Weekend Market at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

SAT APR 16–MON APR 18 Three days of live music, gift shopping, and tasty food for all the family hosted in one of Joburg’s most beautiful green spaces, Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. Explore the park and climb to the top of the waterfall and then kick back and relax on the lawns with tasty bites from the market. Open 09:00–17:00. Entrance to the park costs R70, kids R20, kids under 6 free.
