It truly is a magnificent country, with breathtaking natural landscapes, gorgeous beaches, thriving and bustling cities and a laid-back, relaxed culture. Whether you’re visiting for a week or two or an extended period, there is so much to see and do.

But what if you’re not confident about what you should do and where to go when visiting Australia? After all, it’s a big country with a lot to offer. That’s why, in this helpful article, we’ll share all about exploring Australia and how you can make the most of your time down under.

Read on to discover more!

Consider a Package Deal

You may want to consider holiday packages in Australia. These packages will often include accommodation, meals, and tours of various parts of the country. A package deal can take some of the stress out of the equation if you’re uncertain about what to visit or where to go. You can even further explore once the package deal ends, for instance. You could buy a package deal for a week, then spend another week exploring or hiring a car and driving around, visiting the sights. After all, nothing stops you from staying a touch longer if you have time off and don’t have to hurry home.

Visit the Countryside

Chances are you’ll fly in and stay in one of the big cities – Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, as the east coast is the most popular destination. And that’s fine, there’s a lot to do and see in the big cities, which we will cover below. However, Australia’s countryside is second to none when it comes to scenic vistas, gorgeous landscapes and lush coastline.

Make sure you find time to get off the beaten path and see Australia’s magnificent countryside. There are often beautiful places just an hour or more drive from a capital city. You don’t have to spend countless hours in the car to visit some lush outdoor scenery in Australia.

Take a Tour or Two

You can take many tours when visiting Australia, in either the cities, rural and regional towns or the outback. It’s worth taking a tour or two when visiting Australia, as you’ll benefit from learning from the tour guide, who will have experience and secret local knowledge of the place you’re seeing. You’ll learn about the area’s history or about the local wildlife and flora.

It can also be worth taking a local indigenous tour of the countryside. These are tours run by Australian First Nations people, who will be able to share about the local lore, how their people live on the country, and hunt, fish, and gather food. It can be a fantastic experience to learn from an Aboriginal tour guide.

Hire and Car and Go Exploring

One superb way to see what Australia offers is to hire a car and simply take off exploring. With Google Maps handy, you won’t get lost.

Did you know many Australian retirees buy a caravan and do an extensive driving tour of the country? This can take them a year or more – this gives you an idea of how vast the country really is.

You could spend a few weeks in one state, driving from town to town, seeing some sights and stopping for breaks along the way. And, you still might have only explored a small percentage of that state!

If you have the time and money to do this method of exploring Australia, it is highly recommended. This way, you settle into a slow groove and spend time exploring and discovering what this gorgeous country has to offer.

Spend Some Time in a City

Although we’ve suggested visiting the countryside above if you have some time to spend in a city you won’t be disappointed. Melbourne offers the most culture, whereas Sydney is more of the business and fashion capital. Brisbane is a touch smaller but is warmer and more laid back.

Whatever city you choose to explore, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll find a wide array of restaurants, cafes, bars, galleries, retail therapy and more. Depending on the city, you may also be able to see a play, a poetry reading, or some street art and performance. We recommend spending at least a week or a touch more in a city, so you can truly soak up the vibe and ambience.
