The new Katowice In Your Pocket is out. Get the PDF.
Welcome to 29th edition of Katowice In Your Pocket – Your Guide to Greater Silesia! This issue covers one of our favorite times of year, November-February, which also happens to be one of the best times of the year to visit Silesia. Of course we realize that not everyone will agree with us on this point, however perhaps we can persuade you, ever so slightly. November is the heart of the Golden Polish Autumn. This crunchy-leave-walk scarf-wearing pumpkin- carving mushroom-picking season is the perfect time to go for a crisp walk in Chorzów’s Silesia Park.
The must see concert of the season is American Saxophonist Colin Stetson performing his interpretation of Górecki’s Third Symphony on December 18th. Henryk Górecki was a Katowice native and arguably Poland’s most successful 20th century composer with the Third Symphony being his most famous. Colin Stetson is well known for collaborating with American Indie Rock royalty like The National, TV on the Radio and Bon Iver as well as a solo artist. Read more about this concert plus full listing of other upcoming events at NOSPR in our Culture and What’s On section.
Main Feature: Christmas in Katowice
Katowice will join the ranks of other Polish cities this year in presenting the traditional Christmas market on the newly completed Market Square (Rynek). Read more about Polish Christmas celebrations. Seasons Greetings from all of us here at IYP!
Katowice is changing more and more 🙂 I love this city. Especially the center, NOSPR and other places nearby
